You NEED To Have Boys Nights, Girls Nights, And Time Apart

Updated: Aug 30, 2019

What's your daily schedule like? Really, take a minute a think about it. What are you doing each day, and who are you spending a lot of that time with? Most likely, other than co-workers and your kids, you're spending the majority of that time with your partner. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, you did happen to choose that person to spend your life with. But even though they're your life partner and you love them dearly, too much time with them might make you crazy. The way they breathe, the way they walk, the way they chew their damn food makes you want to rip your hair out. Stupid things that you've never even noticed before are interrupting your mental space because you simply see them too much.

Now think about who you don't spend a ton of time with; your friends! The people who have been there for you since day one and may have even known you longer than your partner has. They know your deepest, darkest secrets, share some of the most fun memories with you, and have done the dumbest things in the world with you. You love them, you need them, you miss them, and it's about time you call them. Yes, you love your partner to death and enjoy spending time with them, but sometimes you just need to get away for a little bit and hang out with your friends like the good ol' days. And you have to allow them to get away and enjoy their time with their friends as well, not matter how crazy they all are.

Every so often, you might get in a mental space where you don't want to see anybody. That's fine! If you really need to be alone, go into your bedroom while your partner stays in the living room, go on a long walk or a bike ride, or even drive to your favorite coffee shop and sit there for a few hours. We all need our alone time, and we all need to be granted that alone time when it's needed. It allows us to clear our head space, do a couple of things that we normally don't have time for, and it gives us the space we need when we feel like we've spent too much time with our partners. Don't feel guilty for bringing this up either. You never know if your partner has been craving some alone time as well! And at the end of the day, you both will feel much better and happier once you were able to unwind on your own.
